Performance

Introduction:
The Performance faculty is a vibrant part of Temple Moor High School and is popular with a large number of the Temple Moor students. Our aim is to provide outstanding opportunities for the creative and expressive development of all learners in a wide range of individual and interrelated artistic disciplines. Principally that means music, drama and dance and although these are taught as discreet disciplines, students have many opportunities to work together in all three and are able to achieve the highest standards both within the curriculum and extended curriculum.

Facilities and Resources:
We have a fully equipped drama / dance studio with state of the art lights, sound, a huge projection screen and full wall mirror. The large lecture theatre can also be used as a second teaching space and provides a huge stage for our renowned production work. In music, we have two large teaching rooms equipped with Mac Computers to enable students to reach the highest possible standards in composing and music technology performance. Two large practice rooms and a recording studio complete the set-up.

Staffing and Curriculum Allocation:
The faculty has an excellent team of full time teachers who are committed to providing the very best opportunities for the students. In addition to the four permanent members of the team teaching music, drama and dance we also have a team of excellent peripatetic teachers delivering weekly lessons in keyboard, guitar, drums/percussion, strings, woodwind, brass and singing to over 140 students.

Extended Curriculum:
We are justly proud of the opportunities that we offer our young people in the extended curriculum. Each term we stage performances in school, our 3rd consecutive running of ‘Temple’s got talent’ will take place in December, a full stage musical theatre production in February/March and a series of summer variety shows in music, drama and dance in July. Rehearsals take place after school on most days of the week for our dance groups, school band, drama groups and percussion groups. In the summer of 2011 we took over 80 students to Lake Garda in Italy to perform outdoor concerts and was repeated in 2013 and will take place again in 2016. Our annual spring musical theatre productions are hugely popular with students and the public. In recent years we have staged The Back to the 80’s, Grease, We Will Rock You, Footloose, Loserville and Fame. We are planning to stage ‘Little Shop of Horrors for 2016. In addition to these in-house events we have also had considerable success out of school in recent years. Two of our school rock bands ‘Marsicans’ and ‘Apache’ reached the final of the Martin House Centre-stage competition in consecutive years raising over £2000.00 for the charity. In dance, our Street Dance group reached the National Finals of the ‘UDO National Schools Competition’ in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 with the students having the opportunity to perform in Blackpool. In 2015 our contemporary group were awarded 6th place in the national competition ‘The Great Big Dance Off’. In drama, we have been regularly involved in the Shakespeare in Schools programme, performing at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and Bradford Alhambra.
